Dr David Dowdell

Dave is a Principal Scientist at BRANZ, a research, testing and consulting organisation for the New Zealand construction industry.  He is currently leading a three year research project which aims to develop a framework to facilitate the evaluation of new building designs based on LCA in New Zealand.  Dave is also a Board member of the Life Cycle Assocation of New Zeland (LCANZ) where he is working to facilitate the establishment of an Australasian Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) scheme.

Prior to joining BRANZ in 2011, Dave was a sustainability consultant for PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP followed by Arup, undertaking LCAs, carbon footprints and sustainability assessments for companies primarily in the automotive, construction and oil & gas sectors, as well as the public sector.  He was also Associate Director of Sustainability at the University of Gloucestershire, where he worked to embed sustainability into the University's processes, including developing the University's Carbon Strategy and producing its first sustainability report.

Dave has an Environmental Science degree from the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich and a doctorate from Plymouth University where his research focussed on modelling atmospheric chlorine and bromine effects ont he "stratospheric ozone hole" and measurement of the physical properties of more ozone-friendly refrigerants.
