Associate Professor McLaren has most recently been Research Leader with Landcare Research, and was previously Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Environmental Strategy, University of Surrey. She has been involved in European initiatives to develop and apply Life Cycle Assessment since the mid-1990s, and more recently has led carbon footprinting projects for the horticultural sector and initiated the Life Cycle Management Project for the manufacturing sector in New Zealand.
Massey University recently won a long-term contract with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to host eh NZ Centre for Life Cycle Management. This high-level appointment is a major step toward fulfilling the objectives of that contract.
The Centre involves as partners Landcare Research, Scion, AgResearch and Plant and Food Research. Under Associate Professor McLaren’s Directorship, it will provide coordination and focus for the activities of Life Cycle Management practitioners across organizations and industry, particularly through capability development. There is a major educational component within the establishment of the Centre and papers will be developed in both the under-graduate and post-graduate existing qualifications at Massey University. The Centre will retain strong linkages with New Zealand land-based industries to meet their demand for training and research and technology implementation and provide trained LCM practitioners.
